OCTOBER EVENTS AND REQUIREMENTS DUE

Hi Guys,
Please be sure to work on the "Fitness" section, page 246. You can complete the balance of this requirement at home.

Please complete 1 a-b-c for the "Athlete" section, page 124
You can mark down 4-5a, 5c, 5d, and 6.
I have some of the work sheets from last meeting to record the progress.
We will finish the balance of pieces together in between other things.

For homework, please write a short piece on describing the flag(what the different parts mean) and a short history. Use the lines on the flag to write the report on. This is found on page 144, "Citizen" section.

Next meeting is 10/27/11-Heather Robertson will be hosting the meeting. We will be working on "Artist" page 102. I will forward a list of materials to bring in one I know.

Important date-HALLOWEEN PARTY---10/28/11 @ 7PM. PLEASE BRING ONE SMALL PUMPKIN AND A DONATION OF FOOD FOR THE FOOD BANK.

Please do not forget to turn in your registration form and payment ASAP. Also, we are looking to finalize the dues collections by next time we meet. Checks or cash to be turned into Lou Parente.

NOTES:
1. I suggest buying a 3 ring binder to keep your son's projects/papers/etc..in. Makes things much easier for me to check.

2. Please also remember if you are hosting the den meeting and you need to buy something, I can only reimburse up to $15.00. The balance spent will be your responsibility. Each year I used my own money to purchase supplies which far exceeded the amount of dues collected. Last year alone I spent out of pocket $427.42 over the amount collected. I don't get reimbursed by BSA if you were wondering.

3. Finally if you are hosting a den meeting, you will be responsible for the snack.

4. Please let me know if you have an interest in any particular requirement. We can plan it together.

FIRST DEN MEETING NOTES AND FOLLOW UP

Hi Guys,
The first den meeting went well. I want to keep in close contact with everyone so we all progress at the same rate.
Here is the recap of what we discussed:

1) All the boys must have appropriate Webelos attire.

2) All the boys MUST have a Webelos book. A good portion of what we will be doing this year will need to be done at home.

3) All dues for the year will be collected at the next meeting on 10/13/11. Total due for each of us will be $30.00. Please make out checks to the Den Chief financial Officer-Louis Parente. We will discuss how this will work at a later date.

4) A Denner will be voted in each month. Each boy will serve at least once.

5) Each parent will have the opportunity to run an entire den meeting. We will discuss ahead of time what will be required.

6) Please mark off in your book the following completed sections.

A. Page 49.......3, 4, 7a, 7b
B. Complete ...1 and 8 as a family. Mark off when done.

7) Home work(FITNESS REQUIREMENTS) which we will briefly discuss next time we meet:

   A. Page 246 do 1a, 1b, 1c
   B. Page 246 do 3 this week and 4 next week(I passed out the handouts for this).
   C. Try to do 1

8) Next meeting will be held outside. No uniform is necessary. Have your boy wear sweats and sneakers. I would like to meet at NSES and use one of the fields. We will be working on the ATHLETE REQUIREMENTS...page 124. Also plan on a brief discussion.

I know this looks like alot, but many of the do at home things are quick. Be sure to mark them off in the book.

APRIL EVENTS

Hi Guys,
April is finally here. Here is the list of events planned for April. I know with all the sports going on, that this coming meeting may be our last official Den meeting for the year.

APRIL 14TH 6:30-7:30 DEN MEETING

We will be making a birdhouse, so you and your son will need to bring the following items.
1) Hammer
2) Phillips head screwdriver or cordless drill driver with a phillips head bit
3) Old paint brush. It will be used to apply glue
4) Newspaper
5) Tape measure

APRIL 28TH 6:30-7:30 (POSSIBLE DEN MEETING)
We will need to wait and see who can make it. We do need to make a den flag for our chuck wagon, so we may just meet with who is available to get this done.

APRIL 29TH 6:30-8PM DEN MEETING
There will be some sort of entertainment and the boys will be receiving arrow points for all the extra electives we completed.

MAY 21ST CHUCKWAGON
Great event for the boys. This event is held at the Feinstein Youth Camp. Boys do need to wear uniforms, but we may be looking into getting T-shirts. There will be a small fee for the shirts....stay tuned.

I will have more information coming on this.

Den meeting at 6:30. We will be doing the same project as in February. Please be sure to bring the following items this Thursday:

1) 2 clear 2 liter soda bottles washed with label removed.
2) Razor knife(if you have one)
3) Newspaper( I have some from the last meeting-but I always forget to bring some)

Hi there,
Well, we are already into February. Congratulations to all our racers. Your cars looked great. Good job on representing Bear 2!

FEBRUARY 10TH

Our next Den Meeting will be this Thursday 2/10/11 at 6:30 Scouters Hall. We will be working on a woodworking project...yay, something cool! We are going to make a Pinewood Derby Car Display stand. Here is the supply list for our meeting.

We will do the painting and assembly. I did one at home, and if we move a decent pace, we will be able to finish this project within our 1 hour time frame.

Hi Guys,
Here is the calendar of events for December.

December 8th @ 6:30...Sing a long at St Antoines. Bring you scout and Christmas spirit!

December 9th @ 6:30 is our next Den Meeting.
I am trying to get us into see the police station......stay tuned on that.

December 17th @ 6:30 Pack meeting. The boys will get their folding knives for completing thei whittling chip. Keep on practicing safe knive skills. Also, Anthony R and Timmmy M will get their Bobcat Badge.

NOVEMBER 11TH DEN MEETING

Hi,
Please note that the next Den Meeting will be on Thursday Nov. 11th 2010 at 6:30 Scouter's Hall. We will be working on a few things next week, so please be prepared for the following things:

1) We will be finishing up section 3 in the handbook, so please have your boy look up some fact about the Mayflower, Pilgrims, or Plymouth Plantation. I want to discuss this part of American history with them.

2) Please bring a bar of soap and an old butter knife, as we will begin our work on our whittling chip.

3) Also, wanted to touch on bicycle safety, which is another requirement we must complete. In light of recent events, this seems timely.

DEN MEETING ON 10/14/10 @ 6PM

Hi Guys,
For our next Den meeting we will all be meeting in the parking lot at Box Seats at 332 Farnum Pike in Smithfield, RI. From there we will car pool over to the Mowry Conservation area to look for and hopefully hear the Great Horned Owls that live there. I did this hike at night in the rain about one month ago, but unfortunately did not hear a thing. I thought this would be something different for the boys to experience. They can bring a flash light or head lamp to light their way, but NOT to shine on the owls-if we see/hear any. We can have our snack at the trail head when we finish up. We will be working on the following from the book:5A-5C-5D-5E-6B-12B-12C.

and find the Great Horned Owl to listen to the calls and hoots we are expecting to hear.

The hike is only a mile long-if that. We can extend it though to do a second small loop.

I want to meet @ 6PM, as the owls are supposed to be most vocal at dusk and early evening. If it rains, we will meet at Scouter's Hall and work on something different-or reschedule.

Good footwear is advised.

This should be a real hoot.....I hope.

CHUCKWAGON DERBY

Hi Everyone,

The Chuckwagon Derby is only a week away. The date is May 22nd. We will meet at Cub World at 8:00am. I have the checklist of items needed, however, the boys do need to bring a lunch, drink, and maybe some snacks. They should bring a raincoat(just incase). I will also bring some water and snacks for the gang. Please be sure to be in uniform. I am going to attempt to make the Chuckwagon steerable this year. A major oversight last year.

One other reminder. The Summer Campout at Buck Hill is going to be here soon. Please be sure to have your forms with payment in by 5/15/10.

Here is a listing of the upcoming events for this month.

JANUARY 7TH-Pinewood Derby Workshop. I will be there to give out your cars, so please stop in if only to get your Pinewood Derby car. Start time 6pm until 8pm. If you need help making your car, there will be tools and help available.

JANUARY 14TH-Den meeting. 6:30-7:30. We will be working on...God help me..The Food Pyramid again. Achievement 8. Also, please take a look at achievement 7. Each boy needs to bring in an article about 'How people are protecting our world". Most of 7 is done at home with your boy. Same with 8, except our conversation about the food pyramid. I am trying to do something fun with the Food Pyramid this time.

JANUARY 21ST-Pinewood Derby Registration Night. You must bring your COMPLETED Pinewood Derby Car in for check in. Time 6pm-8pm at Scouter's Hall.

JANUARY 23RD-Race Day.We will be at the High School. Start @ 11AM.

December Calendar

Hi Guys,
We have a busy month for December:

1) December 10th-Den Meeting. We are going to do Achievement 6. This is one where the boys discuss with the group thier collection of 10 things. This can be a collection of anything. Each Scout will have about 2-3 minutes to tell us about thier collection. We will then make our ornaments for the nursing home, have snack and end the meeting. Anthony and Sean are our Denners, so they will bring the snacks and drinks.

2) December 11th- Pack meeting at 7pm

3) December 16th-Sing along at St Antoine's. Meet there at 6:30pm.

WINTER CAMPOUT/OTHER INFORMATION

Hi Guys,
First off, thank you very much for running the Halloween Party event for our Den. I really appreciate everybody stepping up to lend a hand.

PLEASE BE SURE TO CATCH UP AND DO THE ACHIEVEMENTS YOUR SON HAS MISSED.

A few dates to keep in mind:

NOVEMBER 7TH: COLLECT FOOD BAGS AND DROP THEM OFF AT THE PRIMROSE FIRE STATION.

NOVEMBER 12: DEN MEETING 6:30 SCOUTER'S HALL. WORKING ON ACHIEVEMENT 5. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING: HAMMER, SMALL FLAT AND PHILLIPS HEAD SCREW DRIVER, PLYERS,SAND PAPER(FINE GRIT IF YOU HAVE IT), AND SOME NEWS PAPER TO COVER WORK SURFACE.

NOVEMBER 20-22:WINTER CAMPOUT AT CUBWORLD.

**THINGS YOU WILL NEED FOR THE CAMPOUT**

Although we will be sleeping inside a building, there will be NO heat, so it is important, depending on how cold it will be, to be prepared. If you have gone in years past, you should know what to expect.

1) Warm sleeping bag(20 degree or colder rating should be fine).

2) No electric heating devices are allowed, but you can bring chemical hand/feet, and body warmers. They do work well at night to stuff into the foot of your sleeping bag...follow instructions.

3) Dress in layers.

4) Raincoat/waterproof shell if weather looks like rain or snow.

5) Flash light.

6) Warm shoes or boots.

7) Hat and gloves.

8) Snacks.

9) Water bottle(for night once we turn in).

We will go over this at the next Den Meeting on 11/12/09

UPCOMING EVENTS AND IMPORTANT DATES

Hi Everyone,
Here are some important dates to keep in mind as we head toward the holidays.

1. Next Den Meeting.....10/22/09

2. Halloween Party......10/23/09
Please note that each Scout MUST bring one small pumpkin for decorating and one snack. Additionally, I will not be able to attend the party so, we need to have some of the parents from our den help out by volunteering at one of the activities. I would take turns and run the activity in shifts.

3. Winter campout registrations and money must be in no later than 10/23/09.

4. Scouting for Food Bags will be distributed by 10/31/09. They MUST be dropped off in your area in order to give people a chance to donate some food to a great cause.

5. Collect food bags and drop off at Primrose Fire Station......11/7/09

If your son misses a meeting, it is crucial that you do the requirements at home with your son, and report back to me with his completion, so I can mark him down as completing the activity. We all want to get the Wolf badges at the same time. If we did a craft or made something pertaining to a requirement, I will give you whatever we worked on at the next meeting.

If you miss the meeting, dues are still collected. I buy enough projects, supplies, etc...for each boy.

2nd Meeting

OK-One down and eleven to go. Our next meeting will be on October 8th at 6:30. We will meet again in the large room at Scouter's Hall. Our second acievement will be "Your Flag". If you have an American Flag to bring, please do. We will need at least a few. I also plan on having the boys make their own den flags this year. If time permits, I think we can also do Achievement three, "Keep Your Body Healthy". I will pass out a chart for the boys to work on towards that achievement anyway. I hope we have some singers in the crowd, because we will do electives 11a and 11b. My two Denners next meeting will be Mathew Belcher and Ian Hartley. They both did a great job of collecting dues. They will do that as well as a few other things to help out. New Denners will be chosen each meeting, and everyone will get a chance. If you were unable to pay dues last time, please be prepared for them next meeting. With 14 scouts this year, it gets to be very expensive to buy all the supplies and uniform emblems.

First Meeting

We will be meeting on 9/24/09 at Scouter's Hall at 6:30. We will be working on the first achievement in the Wolf handbook :"FEATS OF SKILL". The boys should not wear their uniforms for this one! Please take a minute to read the first part of the handbook, and brush up on the Bobcat requirements from last year. Our first Pack Meeting will be on 9/25/09 at 6:30pm, uniforms are mandatory. Hi guys,
We will be meeting for our first Den meeting on 9/24/09 at 6:30pm at Scouter's Hall. I hope everyone had a great summer. I will be posting the calendar events soon.....so stay tuned. We are going to have a great year, so I hope to see you all at the first meeting!
